Bisate Lodge - a hotel in the crater of an extinct Rwandan volcano

Bisate Lodge in Rwanda by Nicholas Plewman Architects

Bisate Lodge Hotel and Lodge is built in the natural amphitheatre of a volcanic crater within the Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. Bisate Lodge develops Rwanda's organic culture, taking into account Rwanda's authentic rural building traditions and the ‘thatched’ design of the royal palace in the town of Nyanza. Bisate Lodge is a harmonious fusion of modern comfort and a unique African culture that has stood the test of time. The six villas, which fully fulfil the requirements of modern amenities, were manufactured in Cape Town, South Africa, disassembled and transported to Rwanda where they were reassembled on site.

Bisate Lodge is a good example of a successful combination of modern eco-friendly construction methods with traditional regional ones, maximum possible comfort and ideal conditions for merging with the unique world of Rwandan nature.
