Östermalm, Stockholm, Sweden
Interior Deigner: Joanna Laven
The flat in Östermalm is one of Stockholm's most prestigious neighbourhoods, inhabited mainly by successful and affluent citizens - businessmen, artists and important officials. The neighbourhood, synonymous with success, prestige and bourgeois respectability, is built up with expensive houses and fashionable boutiques of international brands
Stockholm-based interior designer Joanna Laven designed and fitted out an original interior for the new owners of a flat in an Art Nouveau building. She tried to find a balance between elegance and functionality that would suit the owners. All authentic elements were all authentic Art Nouveau elements and décor were retained, the kitchen was extended and brought closer to the dining area, the dressing room, pantry and laundry room became larger, as the children still use nappies. The designer found a common language with the owner, who is a great lover of vintage furniture, so the original modern interior, along with furniture bought at auctions, features designer and unique items that emphasise its past.
