Like stepping into an Old Masters painting
Banda’s project in Notting Hill, London, is a three-bedroom penthouse
perched on the fifth floor that conjures the feel of a French farmhouse.
Banda Property :
Described as “like stepping into an Old Masters painting” this penthouse apartment is a beguiling mix of rustic look and luxury feel. Original oak beams accentuate the double height ceiling in the open plan living space and add a feeling of earthiness which is enhanced by the use of clay plaster on the walls.
The colour palette is owned by natural tones blending from olive to taupe,
with the calming shades giving a depth that displays a human, artisanal touch.
This gentle, restful space is anchored by the strong geometric lines of the
fireplace in bold Nero Marquina marble and statement lighting that provides
just the right amount of juxtaposition to the softness.
Edo Mapelli Mozzi, creative director and CEO of Banda :
“A French farmhouse tends to be full of pieces built up over the years. This is exactly what we wanted to convey in the penthouse. The design unfolded from the oak beams. Once we saw how powerful they were, the rest just flowed. We wanted to create elegant farmhouse warmth, which is decidedly unusual in a city apartment.”
Edo Mapelli Mozzi :
“The quality and provenance of materials will continue to be a major theme for us,” he says, “as will our signature approach of delicately mixing old with new. We pride ourselves on championing craftsmanship and emerging talent.”
Edo Mapelli Mozzi :
“Environmental impact must be factored into every decision. To us, mitigating impact means building high-quality homes that last and are ‘built for life’. Reducing unnecessary retrofitting or restoration in the future, which ultimately costs time, money, and energy”
