Binissalem, Mallorca
This villa near Binissalem, a wine-growing region of Mallorca, is a good example the balance between luxury and sustainability.
Its owners are a couple of travel and decoration photographers who, after living 14 years in Ibiza, decided to change islands just before the pandemic. They had acquired this 110 house and about 40,000m2 of land a few years before and completely transformed it thanks to their knowledge of interiors and the help of several specialists such as Rafael Bennasar Miguel, from 25 Projects , the interior designer Melanie Murata, from Karu Design (for the side tables and lamps), the landscaping of Mashamba Mallorca , as well as the designs of Ksar Ibiza.
Inside, all the original Mallorcan stone and mare stone walls and floors were preserved. The tone of Mallorcan sandstone predominates with touches of black, like the kitchen island, and designer Emilie Bon, a friend of the couple, helped them get that sisal floor and the rest of the natural decorations. But the most special thing about its decoration are the art pieces by Spanish artists that are displayed throughout the house.
The owner, photographer Ana Lui:
“Everything is for sale. The house functions as a showroom for local Mallorca artists to display and sell their work. That is, once we sell a work, we exchange it for a new one”
The house was restored under sustainable parameters.
Ana Lui:
“We have recycled every stone and piece of wood that was on our land. We use breathable mortar, we use natural lighting and we collect rainwater to water our farm”
