From Madrid with love
A two-level loft by designer Juan Luis Medina, who founded the interior design studio Madrid in Love ten years ago. The loft is located inside an old 17th-century convent where Pedro Almodóvar shot one of his first films, Entre Tinieblas. The building of the old monastery - an icon of the Chueca neighborhood with a magenta plaster façade on Pelayo Street that was renovated in 2005 to be converted into a few luxury apartments.
Juan Luis Medina:
“I like neutral, calm and monochromatic spaces. Everything fits together much better in them. My house will always be unfinished. Lately I've been guided by the principle that if something goes in, something comes out. It is a laboratory for our projects.”
Juan Luis Medina:
“You open your eyes in the morning, you see those beams and you think you're in the countryside. You can't hear the street, only your neighbors."
Juan Luis Medina:
“For me the new luxury is simplicity, craftsmanship and naturalness, I try to be sophisticated but not in an obvious way. I think that people are looking more than ever for comfortable spaces that give them peace”
