Designed by the Danish architect Hans-Georg Tersling around 1905, the Belle Epoque-style villa is one of only a handful located directly on the Mediterranean.
The Parisian designer Damien Langlois-Meurinne has transformed an iconic villa in Cap Martin into an exclusive retreat that capitalises on its mesmerising sea views.
The interior architecture got a major overhaul. A new staircase was installed to link all four floors. The upper floors of this French Riviera holiday home were completely reconfigured and a host of new spaces integrated into the extended lower level, including a wine cellar, home cinema and billiard room. There is also a fitness pavilion with spectacular Mediterranean views, and a seven-metre-deep underground garage, with a pair of elevators to transport cars up and down.
Damien Langlois-Meurinne: “There’s a really close proximity with the water. You can hear the sea from everywhere in the house, and it has these plunging views of rocks and coves.”
Damien Langlois-Meurinne: “The best time at the villa - after five o’clock in the afternoon. It’s then that the light becomes soft and golden. The effect is really rather magical.”
The villa’s greatest appeal is located outside. A swimming pool edged with black lines exudes classical old-school glamour, and the grounds that tumble down to the sea are densely planted with pines. The previous owner also created a cactus garden.
This is stunning!
