Forgotten beauty has regained its splendour
This house on the Amalfi Coast, which extends over various levels and crowns a vast garden of 15 thousand square meters, was built two hundred years ago. It was originally a large rural farmhouse with a small chapel that the grandfather of the current owner, had purchased in the 1930s.
Two centuries later, it was renovated by the grandson of the old owner, Carlo Filippo d'Amico. For the restoration he turned to the architecture studio based in Rome. The challenge was to adapt it to the current lifestyle without eliminating the traces of history. And despite major work, the house has in fact retained its character, made of vaults and arches , and the ceilings of the small chapel are decorated with the original frescoes.
A palette of soft colors was used for the walls, from white to gray, from cream to beige. The floors, on the other hand, are covered in stone, terracotta and majolica from other ancient villas in the region. The pure volumes of the rooms have been offset by an enlightened choice of classic, timeless furniture and unique objects.
The living room with wooden ceiling supported by exposed beams. The coffee table is from the 1940s. Sofas upholstered in linen. The two wooden chairs are family pieces from the 1920s.
