Bunurong Boonwurrung Country, Melbourne, Australia
Renovation and modernisation of a traditional 1890s Victorian house located in Melbourne's leafy Kew area. Kew Garden House acts as a true bridge between the past, with its well-preserved façade and period architectural details, and the present as it is complemented by a new modern pavilion, picturesque garden and beautiful contemporary interiors.
The living room is a large, bright space opening directly onto the garden.
Robson Rak:
"From inside to outside, where old meets new. The connection with the landscape at our Kew garden House is seamless."
The existing fabric features ornate Victorian cornices, grand marble fireplaces, arches and very high ceilings. Robson Rak have sought to complement and enhance the beauty of these period details while propelling the home into future relevance through updated finishes, fixtures and the subtle integration of home automation technology.
A bright atrium connects the historic and modern areas of the house.
Robson Rak sought to create a comfortable and luxurious home that embodies a sense of place and a real connection to the outdoors. The studio managed to achieve this with the clients' wishes in mind, resulting in a timeless and elegant family home.
