Aker Interiors: We wanted an ever changing space to freely design & create in without confinement…as most designers know, you don’t always get to bring your full vision to life on projects for various reasons…and the process of creating was magical and hard. Being your own client is no joke. But we’re beyond about the future possibilities of this ever evolving space!
We wanted a space to showcase our community. We can’t do what we do without the artisans we partner with that share our core ethos and continue to do the hard work of creating hand-crafted, ethical pieces with soul. It’s hard to create goods with a deep level of care when big box stores can sell *much shittier* products for cheap. But these artisans are the reason we’re able to create unique, artfully curated spaces and they deserve recognition. And lastly, we wanted a space to host our amazing clients! As we’ve already seen since the completion of the showroom just a couple months ago, discussing design with clients while in an inspiring space inspires THEM through a greater level of trust to allow us to go further on their projects…to keep pushing for something more in the design of their own spaces.
We knew we wanted open shelving in the kitchen to display the many talented ceramists we love but wanted to come up with a more creative approach to conventional floating shelves.
Bird’s eye view of our showroom island…a beautiful marriage of perfectly imperfect 100 year old maple floors and our custom island + boucle counter stools.
A very interesting modern solution 👍
