Mexico: living in harmony with nature Nua Nakūi, California

 Todos Santos, Baja California Sur

Concept & Design: Jasmine Scalesciani-Hawken
Photography: Amy Neunsinger, Alena Machinskaia, Fernando Marroquin

Nua Nakūi is a wellness and Ayurvedic complex offering rejuvenation programs. Just a few metres from the beach and at the foot of the Sierra La Laguna mountain range.

Made from local materials and pieces that will age well over time (stone and onyx, primarily, as well as wood and aluminum accents to contrast with the rustic elements) , the home consists of two structures joined by an open-air area in the center that allows for the integration of indoor and outdoor space.

Jasmine Scalesciani-Hawken: It's the perfect kind of sculpture - for everyone staying at nua nakūi a favorite part of the residence is this majestic olive tree trunk. It was found driving off a beaten track some hours north, off the coast. with great love and effort it was brought into the home and sits in the great room. Because the ceilings of the house are over 15ft it looks much smaller in photos, but it actually measures over 6 feet in width and height.

The colour palette includes various shades of white, cream and light beige combined with many textures to give a warm feeling. A two-metre-high and two-metre-wide tree in the living room is the heart of the house, where the sculptural lamp and sofa, as well as the paintings, are by Jasmine.

Everything was handcrafted in such a way that imperfections become beauty in these spaces where authenticity and balance come together at every moment.
