The neo-country residence designed by Archi-tectonics in North Salem, two hours New York.

Archi-tectonics: The studio has completely redesigned and renovated the existing residence, transforming it into a comfortable and modern country villa , with rooms of important dimensions and heights, conceived as a second home for a family living in Manhattan. The perfect setting for weekends immersed in the nature of Upstate New York, a calm and welcoming refuge where you can live like once upon a time.

Principal architect Winka Dubbeldam: We redesigned the many bathrooms and the kitchen and dining area. The idea was to create airy, relaxed spaces with natural textures and palettes, and playful accents for the kids' rooms. Many of the custom-made furniture pieces balance the home's classic features with the homeowners' urban lifestyle.

Principal architect Winka Dubbeldam: For country houses I prefer to use natural materials that gain texture and depth over time and that relate organically to the surrounding nature. In the surrounding park we created a series of land-art fences that simultaneously frame and separate the green and water areas. 

We used wood, stone, natural materials that change harmoniously over time and relate to the surrounding nature. For the land-art fences we preferred a natural, resistant, sculptural material. The choice fell on Ipe hardwood.
