Mel Gibson's burnt down house in Malibu

Malibu, west of Downtown Los Angeles, California

The Oscar-winning film star said his Malibu property was "completely toasted".

Mel Gibson has revealed his home has been destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires while he was away recording Joe Rogan's podcast.

Mel Gibson:

"I went home and I said to myself, 'Well, at least I haven’t got any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore.”

The house of 603.8 square meters with a large garden is located on the Pacific coast on a plot of 2.23 hectares. There is a beach house and a guest house nearby.

The house, divided into two wings, has five bedrooms with five bathrooms, a "French" country kitchen, a dining room for 10 people, a terrace overlooking the sea, two pools and a garage for three cars. The estate was purchased by Gibson from actor David Duchovny.

Mel Gibson:

"Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional. You live there for a long time, and you had all your stuff. I had my stuff there, and it’s all like, I’ve been relieved from the burden of my stuff, because it’s all in cinders.”

Mel Gibson:

“The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way, that’s all I can care about, really.”
